HO, Volta Region – The Acting President and members of the Mafi Traditional Council, led by Togbe Asafo Buatri IV, have petitioned the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, to intervene in key development challenges facing the Mafi Traditional Area and the Central Tongu District.

In the petition, the Traditional Council appealed for government support to upgrade the existing Adidome Agricultural Farm Institute into a fully-fledged tertiary institution.

Specifically, the Council proposed that the institute be transformed into a Veterinary College to provide advanced training in animal health, livestock production, and agricultural development.

According to the Council, the upgrade would create jobs for the youth, boost agricultural productivity, and position the Central Tongu District as a centre of excellence for veterinary education in Ghana.

Call for Road Rehabilitation
The Council also made a passionate appeal for the rehabilitation of major roads in the district. It highlighted the deplorable state of the road network linking communities in Central Tongu, with particular emphasis on the Adidome Township Road.

The Council noted that the deteriorated road continues to affect transportation, trade, access to education, healthcare delivery, and other socio-economic activities in the area.

“We are confident that addressing these concerns will significantly improve the living conditions of our people, promote economic growth, and accelerate development in the district,” the petition stated.

Regional Minister Responds
Receiving the petition, Hon. James Gunu commended the Traditional Council for its development-focused proposals. He assured the chiefs that their concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate government authorities for consideration and action.

The Regional Minister further reiterated government’s commitment to partnering with traditional authorities to drive development across the Volta Region.
