Employees of Akosombo Textile Limited (ATL) engaged in a protest on June 30, 2026, to express their dissatisfaction with what they characterize as unacceptable working conditions, as well as the failure to receive promised remuneration and benefits. The demonstration culminated in the submission of a petition to the Asuogyaman District Chief Executive, Hon. Godwin Bobobee.
The petition presented by the workers outlined several significant grievances, including reports of ten months of unpaid salaries, along with longstanding arrears in bonuses and Tier 2 pension contributions. Previous reports have also indicated concerns regarding inadequate compensation, with some employees allegedly earning below GH¢500, and the dismantling of company machinery, which reflects a troubling state of the factory’s operations. This protest underscores a profound discontent among the workforce, who are advocating for immediate government intervention to address the financial and operational challenges faced by the company.
In response, Hon. Godwin Bobobee accepted the petition and assured the concerned workers of his support. He also communicated President Mahama’s commitment to the refurbishment of Akosombo Textile Limited. The district assembly has pledged to relay the workers’ concerns and is actively working towards solutions aimed at revitalizing the company and enhancing the welfare of its employees.
