The Minority members of Parliament’s Local Government and Rural Development Committee have recommended that the government reallocate funds designated for the 24-Hour Market initiative in communities where such facilities may not be necessary. They suggest that these funds should instead be directed towards completing the unfinished Agenda 111 hospital projects.

During a capacity-building workshop for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) held in Accra, the Committee’s Ranking Member, Francis Asenso-Boakye, expressed his viewpoint. He stated that several districts already possess existing markets that are underutilized. Therefore, he argued that allocating additional resources to establish new markets in these areas would not represent the most effective use of public funds, particularly when essential health infrastructure projects remain incomplete.
