The Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly has supported 108 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with various livelihood, business, mobility and economic empowerment interventions aimed at improving their independence and quality of life.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey, commended H.E. John Dramani Mahama for increasing the PWD allocation under the District Assemblies Common Fund from 3% to 5%, noting that the increment is enabling Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to do more for Persons with Disabilities.
2026 Beneficiary Breakdown:
– Chest Freezers – 22 beneficiaries
– Double-Door Fridges – 4 beneficiaries
– Fufu Processing Machines – 17 beneficiaries
– 200 Bags of Charcoal – 10 beneficiaries
– Cassava Processing Machines – 11 beneficiaries
– Polytanks – 10 beneficiaries
– Industrial Machines – 6 beneficiaries
– Pairs of Crutches – 9 beneficiaries
– Cash Support – 5 beneficiaries
– Cartons of Store Provisions – 3 beneficiaries
– Animal Rearing (Goats & Sheep) – 2 beneficiaries
– And other support including soaps, onions, tomato processing machine, maize, knitting machine, irrigation pump, fence wire, foldable chairs, and farm inputs.
TOTAL: 108 BENEFICIARIES
Speaking during the disbursement, Na-Afua Woyram Tettey, Yilo Krobo Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, emphasized that supporting PWDs should go beyond charity.
“Supporting Persons with Disabilities is not an act of charity; it is a social responsibility aimed at restoring dignity, promoting inclusion and empowering them to become economically independent,” she said.
She added that empowering Persons with Disabilities to establish sustainable livelihoods creates opportunities for them to contribute meaningfully to their families, communities and the development of society.
