Ascending the Bogyawe Palace throne in 2011, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III – Akwamumanhene serves as the Paramount Chief and Overlord of Akwamuman (Akwamu State).
As he marks 15 years on the stool in 2026, his reign stands as a testament to focused leadership centered on peace, socio-economic development, education, and cultural preservation.
From Uncertainty to Stability
Before his ascension, Akwamuman experienced nearly two decades of chieftaincy uncertainty. Following his installation in 2011, lingering chieftaincy litigations were brought to court by opposing factions.
In July 2022, the Supreme Court of Ghana decisively ruled in favor of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, affirming the legitimacy of his enstoolment and bringing finality to years of dispute.
Following the landmark ruling, Odeneho prioritized unity and reconciliation, urging all Akwamu people to move away from litigation and focus on the collective growth and forward march of the kingdom.
A Blend of Royalty and Professional Leadership
A health administrator and businessman by background, with degrees from the University of Central Florida and the University of Ghana Business School, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III has applied professional management practices to traditional governance.
His key initiatives include:

– National Service: Serving as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ghana College of Pharmacists (2017–2024) and remaining an active member of both the Eastern Regional and National House of Chiefs.
– Youth and Agriculture: Establishing agricultural enterprises to train local youth, promote entrepreneurship, and strengthen food security.
– Cultural Heritage: Passionately promoting Akwamu’s rich history, highlighting its strategic position along the Volta River, its pivotal role in West African history, and its priceless cultural artifacts such as the historic 1733 Akwamu-Danish key.
Throughout his 15-year reign, he has also fostered strong diplomatic ties with other traditional authorities, reinforcing ancestral bonds with great kingdoms like Asante and Dormaa.
