Anchor Scripture: 2 Samuel 9:1
> “And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

Child of God, hear this deep mystery!

Look at the story of Jonathan! Jonathan was the son of Saul – the crown prince! By law, by blood, by tradition, he was the next king after Saul. The throne was his birthright. But Jonathan saw David, a stranger, a shepherd boy from nowhere, and he said “I will sacrifice, my kingship for you.”

When his father Saul was fighting David, trying to kill David, Jonathan left his own father and joined his father’s enemy! He protected David, he fed David, he covered David, he even stripped himself of his robe, his sword, his bow and gave it to David. 1 Samuel 18:4. He sacrificed his throne!

Who does that? Who sacrifices his own inheritance for a strange r?

But listen to this secret!

Whatever kindness we show to others today, even if we don’t enjoy the reward instantly, God preserves it in Heaven’s bank for our family wh,en we are no more!

Years later, Jonathan was dead. San aul was dead. Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth was crippled, forgotten, thrown out of the palace, living in Lodebar – the land of nothing, eating from dustbin, hiding. Nobody remembered him.

:But David remembered! One day David woke up and said “Is there anyone left in the house of Saul that I may show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” Because of ONE MAN’S sacrifice years ago, his crippled son who did nothing, who did not even know David, w,as carried from Lodebar to the palace! He began to eat at the king’s table like one of the king’s sons! 2 Sam 9:7-13.

The kindness Jonathan showed when he was alive became a pension for his son when he was dead!

Many people are in big offices today because of some help they offered to someone who now has become the Manager, the DCE, MP, President, Head of State, CEO, etc.

Our parents helped people who were not their biological children and because of that some of their children didn’t suffer for job, for education, for accommodation, because the people their parents to,ok care of are now in great offices, so they used that position to take up their responsibilities!

You think you are just helping a small boy in school? You think you are just paying fees for a poor girl? That boy may become the C;O tomorrow! That girl may become the Minister tomorrow! And your child will not suffer for a job because of the seed you sowed today!

Sometimes people you help will not appreciate you. They will forget you. They will even betray you like David’s people forgot Jonathan for years. But hear me – MEN MAY FORGET YOU, BUT GOD WILL NOT FORGET YOU! God will keep the record! And when men forget, God will cause the Book to be opened!

Do you remember Mordecai? In ,Esther 6:1-3, the Bible says the King could not sleep, and he commanded the Book of Chronicles to be opened. And Mordecai was remembered! Mordecai had done kindness – he exposed a plot to kill the king. He got no reward immediately. But Gand od kept it! Years later, that preserved kindness saved the entire Jewish nation from death! The same kindness promoted him from gatekeeper to Prime Minister!

Do you remember Tabitha – Dorcas? Acts 9:36-41. She was full of good works and almsdeeds. When she died prematurely, the widows stood and showed Peter the coats and garments she had made for them. It was her kindness that was speaking! Her kindness protested against death! The people demonstrated against Heaven – “God, why should this kind woman die?” And God could not kea ep His Spirit. He sent Peter to bring her back to life! Kindness ,gave her a second chance!

Do you remember Hezekiah? Isaiah 38:1-5. When sickness came to kill him, he did not quote his money, his army. He quoted his kindness! He said “Remember now, O LORD, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight.” And God added 15 years to his life!

Child of God! Let us not give up in doing kindness! And let us not show kindness only to those we know, only to those who can help us, only to family alone. Show kindness toan strangers as well!

Ta here are some rewards of kindness we don’t take instantly. God preserves some for the next generation! Your kindness today may be the reason your child will be remembered tomorrow when you are no more!

10 DEEP LESSONS FROM JONATHAN, MORDECAI, TABITHA AND HEZEKIAH ABOUT KINDNESS

1. TRUE KINDNESS SACRIFICES YOUR OWN THRONE FOR ANOTHER’S DESTINY
Jonathan was supposed to be king, but he sacrificed his throne for David. Real kindness costs you something. It is not kindness when it costs you nothing. It is kindness when you give your robe, your sword, your position so that another man can rise. Can you sacrifice your comfort for a stranger?

2. KINDNESS IS A SEED THAT NEVER DIES, EVEN WHEN THE SOWER DIES
Jonathan died, but his kindness did not die. It was speaking years later in the palace. Mordecai’s kindness was forgotten for years, but it was speaking in the night when the king could not sleep. Your kindness is not wasted. Even if you die, it will keep speaking for your children!

3. GOD HAS A BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ACTS OF KINDNESS – THE BOOK OF CHRONICLES
Esther 6:1 – The Book of Chronicles was opened. Heaven has a record! Malachi 3:16 says a book of remembrance was written. God does not forget your alms, your sacrifice, your kindness to that widow, that orphan. One day that book will be opened for your sake!

4. KINDNESS CAN BRING YOUR CHILD FROM LODEBAR TO THE PALACE
Mephibosheth did nothing to deserve palace. He was crippled, in Lodebar – a place of no pasture, no hope. But his father’s kindness brought him out! Your kindness today can be the visa that will bring your son out of Lodebar tomorrow. You may be gone, but your kindness will carry your children to places your money could not carry them.

5. DON’T SHOW KINDNESS ONLY TO THOSE WHO CAN PAY YOU BACK
Jonathan helped David who was a nobody, a fugitive with no money to repay him. Tabitha sewed for widows who had nothing to give her back. If you only help those who can help you, that is business, not kindness. God wants you to help strangers, enemies, poor people who cannot repay you – God Himself will repay you!

6. KINDNESS IS A WEAPON AGAINST PREMATURE DEATH
Tabitha died, but her good works br,ought her back! Hezekiah was sick to death, but his good works gave him 15 more years! When death comes to knock, your kindness will speak for you! Many would have died early but their kindness protested in Heaven and gave them extension!

7. KINDNESS IS STRONGER THAN YOUR FATHER’S ENMITY
Saul was David’s enemy. By law, David should have killed all the house of Saul. But because of Jonathan’s kindness, David said “I will show kindness to the house of Saul FOR JONATHAN’S SAKE.” One man’s kindness overruled a family curse! Your kindness can cancel the enmity your father created for your children!

8. THE REWARD OF KINDNESS IS NOT ALWAYS INSTANT – IT IS PRESERVED FOR POSTERITY
We want instant reward. But God says “I preserve some for your children.” Jonathan did not see his son eating at the king’s table – he was dead. Mordecai did not get promotion immediately – it was delayed for years. Don’t be discouraged when your kindness is not rewarded instantly. It is being banked for your next generation!

9. KINDNESS GIVES YOU A VOICE TO NEGOTIATE WITH GOD
Hezekiah negotiated with God with his kindness. Tabitha’s widows negotiated with Peter with her garments. When you have a track record of kindness, you can stand before God and say “Remember!” and God will listen. What can you quote before God when trouble comes? Your kindness is your lawyer!

10. YOU ARE PRESERVED TO PRESERVE OTHERS, AND YOUR KINDNESS PRESERVES YOUR OWN
You were not blessed to be a container, you were blessed to be a channel. The same way Joseph was preserved to preserve Israel, Jonathan’s kindness preserved his own bloodline. When you preserve others, God will use others to preserve your own when you are gone!

10 POWERFUL BENEFITS WHEN YOU LIVE A LIFE OF KINDNESS AND SACRIFICE

1. BENEFIT OF GENERATIONAL REMEMBRANCE:
Your name will not die. Like David remembered Jonathan, men will remember your house. Long after you are gone, people will say “For the sake of your father, come and eat at the palace.” Your kindness makes your family unforgettable.

2. BENEFIT OF RESCUE FROM LODEBAR:
Your children may be crippled by life, may be in Lodebar – the place of dryness, joblessness, rejection. But because of your sacrifice, God will command a David to bring them out and seat them among princes. Your kindness is their rescue!

3. BENEFIT OF THE BOOK BEING OPENED FOR YOU:
Like Mordecai, there will be a night when your case will be reviewed. When you are forgotten, when promotion is being shared, God will cause your Book of Chronicles to be opened. You will be remembered at midnight!

4. BENEFIT OF DELIVERANCE FROM PREMATURE DEATH:
Like Tabitha and Hezekiah, kindness extends life. When sickness, accident, or death sentence is written against you, your good works will cry out “He must not die now!” and God will add years to your life and bring you back!

5. BENEFIT OF YOUR CHILDREN EATING AT THE KING’S TABLE WITHOUT QUALIFICATION:
Mephibosheth was not qualified – he was lame. But kindness qualified him. Your children will sit among kings not because they are qualified, but because you were kind. Doors will open for them that their certificate cannot open!

6. BENEFIT OF TURNING YOUR FATHER’S ENEMIES INTO YOUR FRIENDS:
Saul fought David, but Jonathan’s kindness turned David from enemy of Saul’s house to friend of Saul’s house. Your kindness today will turn your father’s enemies into your children’s helpers. The man fighting your father will help your son because of your kindness.

7. BENEFIT OF PRESERVED REWARD IN HEAVEN’S BANK:
Not all your reward will be given now. God preserves some! While you think you lost, Heaven is banking for your children. You did not enjoy all your reward, but your children will withdraw it with interest! It is a generational account!

8. BENEFIT OF BECOMING AN INTERCESSOR FOR YOUR FAMILY WHEN YOU ARE GONE:
Jonathan in the grave was still speaking for Mephibosheth! Your kindness will speak for you in the grave. When your children are in trouble and you are not there, your past kindness will be their voice in the palace!

9. BENEFIT OF DIVINE REVERSAL AND PROMOTION:
Mordecai was at the gate, but his kindness brought him to the palace as Prime Minister. Kindness promotes! That small kindness you show that driver, that house help, that stranger – God will use it to promote you from gate to palace!

10. BENEFIT OF OVERCOMING YOUR OWN LODEBAR:
Tabitha’s kindness overcame death. David’s kindness to Mephibosheth overcame shame. When you are kind to others, God makes others kind to you in your Lodebar season. You will never be stranded because your kindness will return to you!
