A modern Farmer Service Centre (FSC) is under construction at Dorveme in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region as government steps up efforts to promote mechanised farming among smallholder and commercial farmers.
The project, being executed by Ghanaian engineering and construction firm B5 Plus, forms part of the broader agricultural transformation agenda.
Project Manager, Mr. George Opoku, told GNA that the Centre will house agricultural machinery to help farmers increase production and boost national food security.
According to him, the facility will comprise seven main structures, including a maintenance workshop and office complex, dormitory, cafeteria, four car parks, fuel and lubricant station, spare parts store, and three warehouses for fertiliser, seeds, and post-harvest produce.
Construction, which started a month ago, is expected to be completed within three to four months. He said foundation works for most facilities are almost complete.
Mr. Opoku explained that most structures are pre-engineered buildings with components fabricated off-site for quick assembly on site.
He disclosed that an existing warehouse earmarked by the Municipal Assembly for cassava processing will be incorporated into the project.
He commended the Keta MCE, Mr. Wisdom Seade, and traditional authorities for their support, adding that the project currently employs about 50 workers, with 60 to 70 percent being youth from Dorveme, Heluvi, Tsiame and surrounding communities.
Mr. Opoku assured that B5 Plus is committed to completing the Centre on schedule for the benefit of farmers.
