Nehemiah 2:10, 20 – “When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel… Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.”
*MORAL LESSON*
Not everyone will celebrate your decision to rise.
In every successful life, you will meet your own Sanballat and Tobiah. They are the mockers, the accusers, the ones who are grieved when they see you trying to seek the welfare of your own life, family, and community.
Nehemiah was about to do something that would benefit everyone, including his enemies, yet they opposed him. Why? Because they thought he didn’t have what it takes. They looked at his background, his size, his resources, and concluded he would fail.
*This is your story too.*
Maybe you have decided to go back to school, to start that small business, to learn a skill, to build your community. And people are looking down on you because of your poor background, your academic gaps, your financial status. They are mocking you, saying “You can’t make it.”
Don’t give up!
In every destiny, there must be a Sanballat and Tobiah. God allows them to push you to aim higher, to pray harder, and to achieve more.
WHAT SHOULD WE LEARN FROM NEHEMIAH?
1. Don’t Waste Your Time Fighting Back.
Nehemiah did not stop building to argue. He stayed focused on what he was called to do. Many of us waste precious time replying to our enemies on social media, in the community, in the family. That only delays your mission. Let them talk, let them call you names – you keep building.
2. Be Determined and Deaf to Distractions.
Nehemiah never allowed the noise from the enemy’s camp to frustrate him. Determination is louder than mockery. If your vision is clear, their noise should be powerless.
3. Be Bold to Make Decisions.
Vision without boldness is just a dream. Nehemiah was bold. He took a stand and declared his mission. You must also be bold to say, “This is what I will do, whether you support me or not.”
4. Make God Your Source, Not Man.
Nehemiah’s greatest statement was, “The God of heaven will prosper us, therefore we His servants will arise and build!” He knew God is the supplier of all resources. When you put God first, you will never lack the provision for the vision. The Bible says, “The Lord is good to those who trust in Him” and “Commit your way to the Lord and He will bring it to pass.”
5. Choose Your Circle Wisely.
Nehemiah surrounded himself with people who understood and supported his vision, not with accusers. The people you walk with on your destiny journey can either build your vision or break it. Choose friends who build, not those who mock.
SO, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
1. Expect Opposition: Don’t be shocked when they mock you. It is a sign that you are doing something significant.
2. Keep Building: Let your results answer them. Your success is your best reply.
3. Trust God for Provision: Your help is not in Sanballat’s approval. Your help is from the God of heaven.
4. Guard Your Vision: Share your vision with builders, not breakers.
Remember, they may have no portion in your Jerusalem, but you do. So Arise and Build!
