Genesis 13:14 – “And the LORD said unto Abram, AFTER that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:”
Notice that word – *AFTER*. God did not speak until AFTER Lot was separated.
Sometimes the reason God is silent is not because He has forgotten you, but because you are still holding on to your Lot.
God had already promised Abraham a land, a blessing, a future. Abraham obeyed God but took Lot along out of pity and love. He thought he was helping Lot, but he didn’t know Lot was the hindrance to his own promise.
God knew if He blessed Abraham while Lot was still there, Lot would fight over the blessing. So God waited. He delayed until Abraham had the courage to separate.
*MORAL LESSONS FOR US TODAY:*
1. Not everyone can go where God is taking you.
You can love them, you can pity them, but love is not always a license to carry them into your destiny. Some people are good, but they are not good for your future.
2. Pity can delay destiny.
Some of the help we render to people is working against us because it is not the will of God. We are helping out of emotion, not instruction.
3. Separation is painful but necessary.
It could be that friend you know is draining you, that relationship that keeps pulling you back, that community you are afraid to leave, that job you are scared to quit, that habit you refuse to drop. As long as you hold it, your lifting is on hold.
*WHAT SHOULD WE DO?*
1. Ask for Discernment: Ask God, “Who is my Lot?” Who or what is blocking my next level?
2. Have the Courage to Separate: Separation is not wickedness. It is wisdom. Abraham didn’t fight Lot, he gave Lot the choice and let him go in peace.
3. Lift Up Your Eyes AFTER:Only after you separate will God say “Look!” Your eyes will be opened to the north, south, east and west – to opportunities you couldn’t see before because Lot was covering your vision.
Your blessing is not lost. It is just waiting for your separation.
You can love them from a distance, but you must obey God up close.
