Accra – As Ghana joined the world to mark International Youth Day 2026 on August 12, young people, agribusiness leaders, and key stakeholders converged at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana to discuss how to make agribusiness more attractive to the youth.
Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo, shared his personal entrepreneurial journey in agriculture and urged young people to see farming and agribusiness as viable pathways for building sustainable livelihoods.
The event also featured a panel discussion with representatives from the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA), Fidelity Bank Ghana, Holland GreenTech, and Defarmercist.
Discussions centered on major barriers facing young agripreneurs, including access to land, access to finance, and capacity building, as well as the support systems needed to help more youth build profitable businesses across the agricultural value chain.
The event delivered one clear message: Ghana’s agricultural transformation depends on creating real opportunities for young people to participate, innovate, and lead profitable agribusinesses.
