The Director of Research, Education and Training at the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Alexander Kwaku Obeng, has cautioned transport operators, including GPRTU and other transport cooperatives, against charging passengers fares above the approved rates.

He said the Police will take appropriate action against motorists and transport operators found culpable of overcharging.

Report offending drivers
Mr. Obeng urged passengers to report any driver who demands fares beyond the approved amount.

According to him, passengers can report such incidents to the Police by providing the vehicle’s registration number and other relevant details to aid investigations.

“Overcharging is over. Don’t do it.” he warned.

*Ensuring compliance
The caution comes amid concerns from commuters about arbitrary fare increases by some drivers despite the absence of an official fare adjustment.

The MTTD says it will intensify monitoring and enforcement to ensure transport operators comply with approved fares and protect passengers from exploitation.
