KPANDO, Volta Region – The Kpando Circuit Court has sentenced 28-year-old Stella Amedorme to three years imprisonment with hard labour after finding her guilty of stealing an eight-month-old baby at the Kpando Market.
The incident occurred on Thursday, July 16, according to the child’s mother, Gloria Agbo Mansa, who spoke to _Daily View Gh_.
How the Abduction Happened
Ms. Agbo Mansa said she had travelled to the Kpando Market to sell groundnuts when Stella approached her to buy four local measuring units of groundnuts.
After being told each unit cost GH¢25, the accused allegedly asked that the transaction be completed at the Nkunya Station section of the market.
The mother said she followed the woman while carrying both her groundnuts and her eight-month-old baby strapped to her back. As she measured the groundnuts, the baby became uncomfortable and began crying.
After measuring three of the four units, she realized she did not have enough stock to complete the order. She informed the customer she would quickly collect more from her sister nearby and briefly left the baby in the woman’s care.
“When I returned, both the woman and my baby were nowhere to be found,” she recounted.
Court Orders Pregnancy Test Before Sentencing
During court proceedings, Her Honour Dzifa Amefinu Dina ordered a pregnancy assessment to be conducted on the accused before sentencing.
Following the assessment, the court sentenced Stella Amedorme to three years imprisonment with hard labour for the offence.
The baby has since been reunited with the mother.
