Chief of Staff, Hon. Dr. Julius Debrah, has launched Shea Month with a symbolic shea tree planting ceremony at Jubilee House.
The event reaffirmed government’s commitment to the sustainable growth and development of Ghana’s shea industry.
Dr. Debrah planted the first shea tree as a symbol of renewal, resilience, and Ghana’s determination to harness its natural resources.
The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders including Presidential Advisor on 24-Hour Economy, Hon. Goosie Tanoh, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo, CEO of TCDA, Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, and Managing Director of the Global Shea Alliance, Mr. Aaron Adu.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Debrah said the initiative reflects government’s broader vision to transform agriculture through value addition, job creation and sustainable livelihoods.
He noted that investment in shea goes beyond planting trees. “It is an investment in rural communities, especially women who form the backbone of the shea value chain.”
The Chief of Staff added that the program aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda, which seeks to strengthen tree crops and unlock new export opportunities.
“By investing in the shea tree, we are investing in women, rural communities and a future where Ghana leads with value, not just volume,” he stressed.
Shea Month is expected to promote sustainable management of shea resources, attract investment, and boost job creation and poverty reduction, particularly among women in shea-producing areas.
