The Honorable Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has instructed the coordinator of Feed Ghana to promptly replace all 10,000 Nkuko Nkitinkiti birds distributed in Central Tongu, along with their corresponding feeds and vaccines.
The Minister cautioned that noncompliance with this directive will lead to sanctions, including the potential requirement to compensate for the losses incurred.
This directive follows a prior report by Dela Radio regarding the mass mortality of the birds attributed to alleged starvation and disease.
In a telephone conversation with Dela Radio, Hon. Eric Opoku confirmed the issuance of the replacement order.
A situational report obtained by the District Officer responsible for Livestock indicated that the birds suffered from weakness due to inadequate feeding and a lack of vaccinations.
Dela Radio also reported that the birds were managed by personnel lacking the necessary qualifications. It was alleged that the officer overseeing livestock in the district does not possess a background in agriculture.
The Ministry has stated that it will oversee the replacement process to ensure that affected farmers in Central Tongu receive appropriate compensation.
