The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has completed a tour of communities in the South Tongu District, Anloga District, and Keta Municipality that were affected by recent flooding. The purpose of this tour was to assess the extent of the damage and engage with the residents impacted by the disaster.

Accompanied by Mr. Pascal Agbagba, the Volta Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), along with the respective Municipal and District Chief Executives, the Minister visited several locations, including Sogakope, Dabala Junction, Agbogblah, Atito, Fiaxor, and the lagoon receiving point in Keta. The team observed considerable destruction to homes, schools, roads, farmlands, and other livelihoods resulting from the flooding.

During the tour, the Minister conveyed his condolences to families who have experienced losses and displacement, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting affected communities through ongoing relief initiatives. He also praised NADMO, security services, health personnel, local authorities, and volunteers for their swift response and efforts in assisting flood victims.

Furthermore, the Minister underscored the necessity for enhanced environmental protection measures, stringent enforcement of planning regulations, prevention of construction on waterways, and increased investment in resilient drainage infrastructure to mitigate the impact of future flooding incidents.

He acknowledged that the effects of climate change continue to present significant challenges and urged residents to collaborate with authorities to protect their communities and foster a more resilient Volta Region.
