The midfielder for Wolfsberger AC is now eligible to represent Burkina Faso’s national team after not having earned a senior cap for Ghana.
Atanga developed his skills at the prestigious Red Bull Ghana Academy, which has produced numerous prominent Ghanaian footballers, before relocating to Austria to join FC Liefering, the affiliate club of Red Bull Salzburg.
He was a member of Ghana’s squad during the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in New Zealand, alongside notable players such as Lawrence Ati Zigi, Godfred Donsah, Clifford Aboagye, Samuel Tetteh, and Joseph Aidoo.
Although born in Bolgatanga to a Ghanaian mother, Atanga qualifies to represent Burkina Faso through his Burkinabè father. He has previously played for Ghana at the youth level but has not appeared for the Black Stars.
Following a meeting with officials from the Burkinabè Football Federation in Ouagadougou a few weeks ago, the nationality switch has been finalized, rendering him available for selection for Burkina Faso in the forthcoming international window.
