The Office of the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, expresses its sincere condolences to all individuals, families, businesses, and communities impacted by the flooding that occurred today in Sogakope and other areas within the constituency.
The flooding has resulted in substantial damage to residences, commercial properties, agricultural lands, and various assets, disrupting livelihoods and placing numerous families in distress. The Office shares in the sorrow of every affected resident and assures them of the Member of Parliament’s ongoing concern and commitment during this challenging time.
It is noteworthy that on Saturday, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor personally visited communities affected by the flooding, including Dordoekope, Agbadzakope, and Adutor electoral areas, as well as neighboring communities, to assess the extent of the damage, engage with affected residents, and provide immediate assistance. During this visit, the Member of Parliament offered financial support to several individuals impacted by the disaster and consulted with community leaders and relevant stakeholders regarding practical and long-term strategies to address the recurring flooding issue.
The Office wishes to underscore that the increasing frequency and severity of flooding in Sogakope and its surrounding areas are often exacerbated by human activities. Unregulated development, the obstruction of natural waterways, and the construction of structures without the necessary planning approvals continue to hinder effective flood risk management.
Therefore, the Office appeals to all developers, landowners, and prospective builders to adhere strictly to planning regulations and secure all required permits prior to commencing any construction activities. Individuals erecting structures in waterways, drainage channels, and other unauthorized locations are strongly urged to cease such practices, as they pose significant risks to lives, property, and the environment.
The Member of Parliament remains dedicated to collaborating closely with the South Tongu District Assembly, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), traditional authorities, and all pertinent state agencies to implement sustainable flood mitigation measures and provide essential support to affected communities.
Once again, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor extends his deepest sympathies to all individuals affected by today’s floods and encourages residents to remain calm, follow safety directives issued by the relevant authorities, and support collective efforts aimed at preventing future occurrences.
Signed:
Office of Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor
Member of Parliament for South Tongu
