Introduction
Church growth is not the responsibility of the pastor alone. God expects every member to contribute to the growth and advancement of His kingdom. A pastor can only be effective when members support, encourage, and work together with him in the ministry.
1 Corinthians 3:9 – “For we are labourers together with God.”
1. Pray Consistently for Your Pastor
A pastor faces spiritual battles, opposition, and challenges. One of the greatest ways to help him is through prayer.
Ephesians 6:18-19
*Pray for his spiritual strength.
*Pray for wisdom and divine direction.
*Pray for his family and ministry.
*Pray for open doors for the church.
When Aaron and Hur supported Moses’ hands in prayer, Israel prevailed (Exodus 17:12).
2. Be Faithful in Church Attendance
Your presence encourages your pastor and strengthens the church.
Hebrews 10:25
Attend services regularly.
Be punctual.
Participate actively in church programs.
A growing church is made up of committed members.
3. Win Souls and Invite Others
Church growth happens when members evangelize.
Matthew 28:19-20
Share the Gospel.
Invite friends, neighbors, and colleagues to church.
Follow up on new converts.
Every member should be a soul winner.
4. Support Church Programs and Activities
Do not leave all the work for the pastor.
Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Two are better than one.”
*Join a department or committee.
*Volunteer your time and skills.
*Assist during special programs and outreaches.
5. Give Financially to Support God’s Work
Church growth requires resources.
Malachi 3:10
*Pay your tithes faithfully.
*Give offerings cheerfully.
*Support church projects and missions.
*Your giving helps the church fulfill its vision.
6. Encourage and Respect Your Pastor
Pastors need encouragement too.
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
*Speak well of your pastor.
*Avoid gossip and criticism.
*Show appreciation for his labor.
*Words of encouragement can strengthen him greatly.
7. Live a Christlike Life
Your lifestyle can attract people to Christ or drive them away.
Matthew 5:16
*Be honest.
*Show love.
*Maintain a good Christian testimony.
*A godly member is a powerful advertisement for the church.
8. Promote Unity in the Church
Division hinders growth.
Psalm 133:1 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to *dwell together in unity!”
*Avoid conflicts and strife.
*Forgive one another.
*Work together in love.
*Unity attracts God’s blessing and growth.
9. Use Your Gifts and Talents
God has given every believer gifts to serve.
1 Peter 4:10
*Sing in the choir.
*Join the ushering team.
*Help in administration, *media, teaching, or evangelism.
When every member serves, the church grows stronger.
NOTE:
A pastor cannot grow the church alone. Church growth becomes possible when members pray, evangelize, serve, give, encourage, and maintain unity. Every believer has a role to play in advancing God’s kingdom.
Acts 6:7 – “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly.”
