The Avatime Area Council of the Ho West District Assembly has appointed a new Chairperson, a strategic decision aimed at reinforcing grassroots governance and advancing local development initiatives within the region.
Prior to the election, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ho West, Hon. Prosper Francis Dusey, conducted a courtesy visit to the Chiefs and Elders of Vane, during which he provided an overview of the Government’s Gun Amnesty Programme and its importance for community safety and peace.
The election culminated in the selection of Hon. Robert Elikem Ameh, the Assembly Member for the Amedzofe Electoral Area, as Chairperson of the Avatime Area Council, following his acquisition of the majority of votes cast. Subsequently, he was formally sworn into office by the DCE in accordance with the Model Standing Orders.
In his address to the members post-election, Hon. Prosper Francis Dusey underscored the pivotal role that Town and Area Councils play in the decentralization process, characterizing them as the cornerstone of effective local governance. He urged Council members to foster teamwork, accountability, dedication, and collaboration with stakeholders to propel development within the Avatime Area Council.
The Presiding Member of the Ho West District Assembly, Hon. Adamu Kasim Osman, also encouraged members to support the newly elected Chairperson and to work collectively to ensure that the Council remains responsive to the needs of the community while fulfilling its mandate effectively.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Robert Elikem Ameh expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and committed to collaborating closely with Council members and stakeholders to enhance the operations of the Area Council. He emphasized the necessity of capacity-building programs for members and regular community engagement to improve public understanding and participation in the local governance system.
During the meeting, the District Environmental Health Officer, District Budget Analyst, and District Works Engineer provided members with insights on critical issues such as environmental sanitation, revenue mobilization, and infrastructure development, equipping them for effective service delivery.
