The Ministry of Education has urged teachers and school authorities throughout Ghana to exercise vigilance and closely monitor students due to concerns about drug abuse in certain educational institutions.

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has stated that the government is collaborating with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana TVET Service to enhance measures aimed at preventing drug-related activities within schools.

He noted that teachers hold a significant responsibility in identifying atypical behavior among students, and when necessary, school authorities are authorized to search students’ bags, luggage, trunks, and other personal belongings as part of efforts to uphold discipline and ensure safety on school campuses.

Dr. Apaak highlighted that addressing drug abuse among young people necessitates cooperation among teachers, parents, school administrators, and security agencies.
