VOLTA REGIONAL MINISTER PROVIDES DEVELOPMENT UPDATE TO VOLTA REGIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, on Friday, June 19, 2026, attended the General Meeting of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs in Ho, where he presented a comprehensive update on major government projects and development interventions underway across the region.
In a demonstration of transparency and accountability, the Minister invited Heads of Departments and Agencies to participate in the meeting to respond directly to concerns and questions from members of the House.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Gunu highlighted significant progress in key sectors including education, health, water supply, agriculture, roads, tourism, coastal protection and economic development. He informed the House that the region is currently benefiting from 271 GETFund projects, the implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme, the completion of five Health Kiosks, ongoing road projects under the Big Push Infrastructure Programme, and the rollout of eighteen 24-Hour Economy Markets across the region.
The Minister also updated the chiefs on the progress of the Keta Port and Harbour Development Project, the Blekusu Sea Defence Phase II Project, the Sogakope Water Supply Project, and the proposed Amedzofe-Biakpa Zipline Project, which is expected to become the longest zipline in West Africa upon completion.
Hon. Gunu further outlined government interventions in agriculture, including the distribution of approximately 180,000 birds under the Akukor Nkitinkiti Programme, and others.
The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who also addressed the House, commended traditional authorities for their role in maintaining peace and security in the Volta Region. He reiterated that peace and security remain critical to national development and called for continued collaboration between chiefs, security agencies and government to sustain the region’s reputation as one of the most peaceful in the country.
The meeting provided an opportunity for members of the House to engage government officials on development priorities and governance issues affecting their respective traditional areas.
