Religious leaders, traditional authorities, assembly members, government officials, and civil society organizations within the Suhum Municipality have reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding children from trafficking, exploitation, abuse, and other detrimental practices. This renewed commitment follows a two-day stakeholder dialogue organized by the International Justice Mission (IJM) Ghana.

The engagement, held at the LA Nyarko Pentecost Church, convened key stakeholders to deliberate on the challenges of child protection within the municipality and to formulate practical strategies for protecting vulnerable children.

This initiative is part of a collaborative effort between IJM Ghana and Parliament’s Human Rights Committee aimed at enhancing child protection systems at the community level.

During the forum, the Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe (Protozoa), underscored pressing issues such as child trafficking, child abuse, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS among the youth.

He emphasized that safeguarding children begins within the home and urged parents, religious institutions, traditional leaders, and government bodies to collaborate to ensure that every child is raised in a safe and nurturing environment.

In the subsequent phase of the initiative, stakeholders will establish Municipal and Community Child Protection Committees to coordinate efforts, engage parents, and address concerns related to child welfare.

Participants expressed optimism that this collaboration will contribute to reducing child trafficking, child labor, and other forms of abuse, while promoting a brighter future for children throughout the Suhum Municipality.
