Four nurses at Amegashie Herbal Clinic have been apprehended on allegations of embezzling GH₵5 million.
Dr. Amegashie, the Chief Executive Officer of the clinic, reported that he instructed the arrest of the staff members at the Kasoa branch of the hospital. This action followed the discovery that they had been misappropriating hospital funds, amounting to approximately GH₵5 million, by diverting them into their personal accounts.
Dr. Amegashie explained that the staff had created an alternative register to record certain patients’ payments, retaining the money instead of duly entering all transactions into the official hospital records.
Engaging in theft from one’s employer is a short-sighted act, especially considering that one may eventually expect honesty from their own employees in the future.
Is this the behavior they intend to demonstrate when assigned to public hospitals?
