The Nkusukum Traditional Council in the Central Region has imposed a ban on the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Dr. Ebenezer Arhin, over allegations that he disrespected traditional authorities within the area.
The decision was announced by thirty-two divisional and sub-chiefs under the Council during a press conference at the palace of the Paramount Chief, Nana Okesse Essandoh IX. The chiefs accused the MP of repeatedly disregarding the authority and dignity of the Nkusukum stool and failing to respond to several invitations from the Traditional Council.
As part of the sanction, the chiefs declared that Dr. Arhin is prohibited from entering the traditional area or attending any traditional functions within the jurisdiction of the Council. Clad in red and black attire, the chiefs performed customary rites and invoked the gods of the land, warning that severe consequences would follow should the MP defy the directive.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Okesse Essandoh IX stated that numerous attempts had been made to engage the MP on matters relating to misunderstandings, development projects, and other concerns affecting the area, but those efforts allegedly yielded no response.
The Paramount Chief further appealed to President John Mahama to intervene and call the MP to order.
The traditional leader also issued a political warning, indicating that the Council would mobilize against Dr. Arhin’s re-election bid if the alleged disrespect continued. According to him, the MP risks becoming a one-term legislator if relations with the traditional authorities are not repaired.
Meanwhile, efforts by the media to obtain a response from Dr. Ebenezer Arhin regarding the allegations and the ban were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
The development has sparked discussions among residents and political observers, with many awaiting the MP’s response and the potential impact of the dispute on relations between traditional authorities and political leaders in the constituency.
