The Ve Gbodome Youth Association has officially cut sod for the construction of a modern community centre to promote youth empowerment, community engagement and social development in the area.
The sod-cutting ceremony brought together traditional leaders, opinion leaders, residents, development partners and members of the association, marking the beginning of a landmark project expected to serve as a hub for educational programmes, skills training, community meetings and other social activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Ve Gbodome Youth Association, Madam Judith Ama Amenya, said the community had for many years lacked a central facility for communal gatherings, youth development programmes, cultural activities and other important community engagements.
According to her, the construction of the community centre forms part of efforts to create a conducive environment for youth empowerment and community development while providing a suitable venue for meetings, educational programmes and social events.
She disclosed that upon completion, the facility will include offices, a library, a spacious meeting hall and designated areas for social gatherings and other community activities. Madam Amenya expressed optimism that the project would significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of Ve Gbodome and its neighbouring communities.
She further appealed to indigenes, development partners, corporate organisations and well-wishers to support the initiative to ensure its successful completion.
Expressing his excitement about the project, the Paramount Chief of Ve Gbodome and Ngogbefia of the Ve Traditional Council, Togbui Kongon VI, commended the youth association for taking the bold step to initiate the project. He called on all citizens and natives of Ve Gbodome, both at home and abroad, to contribute towards the construction of the facility and make the project a reality.
According to him, the community centre project presents an opportunity for Ve Gbodome to demonstrate unity and self-reliance while setting a worthy example for other communities within the Ve Traditional Area in community-led development.
Also in attendance to support the Paramount Chief were Togbui Komlakpuie VI, Mankrado of Ve-Gbodome, and Mama Fofoe VI, Queen Mother of Ve-Gbodome, together with other traditional authorities and distinguished guests.
The Member of Parliament for Afadzato South, Frank Afriyie, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the project and other development initiatives within the district. As part of efforts to ensure the successful execution of the project, the MP, together with the District Chief Executive, donated 200 bags of cement and GH¢10,000 towards the construction of the community centre.
He urged the chiefs and people of Ve Gbodome to continue supporting and praying for the leadership of the district as they work together to bring more development projects to Afadzato South.
Hon. Afriyie also used the occasion to announce that a mechanized borehole water project for Ve Gbodome is currently underway. He explained that the project, when completed, will provide residents with a reliable source of potable water and help improve living conditions in the community.
Residents who attended the ceremony welcomed the initiative and described it as a major milestone in the development of Ve Gbodome. They expressed confidence that the facility would create opportunities for youth empowerment, learning, social interaction and community advancement.
Construction works are expected to commence immediately, with the project envisioned as a lasting legacy that will serve present and future generations of Ve Gbodome.
