The Akatsi District Police Command stated that it had commenced investigations into a disturbance that resulted in a shooting incident at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The police explained that the incident left two persons injured and also led to the destruction of properties.
According to the statement, the victims, identified as James Kpanda, 44, and Jonathan Kpanda, 30, sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. It added that a Mercedes-Benz private car, two motorbikes, and a fence wall were destroyed.
The police further disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that at about 10:30 a.m. on the said date, some young men, including the two victims, allegedly went to the residence of the suspect, Mensah Awagah, and started pulling down his fence wall.
The statement said that the actions of the young men reportedly infuriated the suspect, who allegedly went into his room, retrieved a gun, and fired at the group. As a result, James and Jonathan sustained gunshot wounds to the knee and the eye respectively.
It was further reported that the angry youth subsequently went on a rampage and set ablaze a Mercedes-Benz private car and two motorbikes parked within the suspect’s residence. The police noted that personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were called to the scene, but before their arrival, the car and motorbikes had been burnt beyond recognition.
The statement added that suspect Mensah Awagah was in police custody assisting with investigations, while the injured victims were receiving treatment at the Akatsi District Hospital.
Finally, the police indicated that they were on a manhunt for the other suspects involved to assist with ongoing investigations and assured the public that further developments would be communicated in due course.
