According to reports, the heartbreaking event happened on Friday, May 22, near the Swedru Mandela Market when the young woman allegedly slipped into a large drainage gutter amid the downpour.
Family sources revealed that Hajia Hawa, believed to be the youngest child of her family, had gone to buy wigs from a nearby supermarket before the unfortunate incident occurred. Her elder sister, Hadiya Mustapha, said the rapidly rising floodwaters carried her away before anyone could rescue her.
Following the incident, members of the Swedru Asafo Company together with community leaders reportedly organized a massive search operation to find her. Sadly, after three days of searching, she is still missing.
Residents fear the powerful floodwaters may have swept her into the overflowing Akora River, making search efforts more challenging.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the dangers flooding poses across several parts of Ghana during the rainy season.
Meanwhile, the family has expressed gratitude to volunteers, residents, and search teams for their continuous support during this painful time.
