Residents of Nortigokope in the Agotime-Ziope Constituency have renewed calls for electricity supply after sending an open letter to MP Charles Agbeve.
The letter, written by Felix Abusah, a native now living in the U.S., said the community has received repeated assurances over the years but seen no progress. He noted that the lack of electricity is affecting education, healthcare, businesses, security, and overall socio-economic development.
“Electricity is not a luxury; it is a basic necessity for development, education, healthcare, security and economic growth,” the letter stated. Abusah urged Agbeve to work with the Electricity Company of Ghana and other agencies to connect the community to the national grid.
Responding to GNA, Agbeve acknowledged the situation and said Nortigokope-Ziope has never been connected to electricity, along with Zomelokope, Tugukope, Selorm Farms, Gbafakope, Awuyekope, and Hododuikope.
He said the communities have been captured under the Self-Help Electrification Programme SHEP IV, which is expected to be implemented under the government’s “Big Push” initiative. The MP assured residents that updates would be provided on the next steps.
