Leadership of the Tuobodom Youth Development Association in the Techiman North District of Bono East Region has rejected the Government’s decision to demolish the already existing Tuobodom Market to construct a 24-hour economy Model market.
The non-partisan pressure group that fights for the development of Tuobodom argues that the Traditional Authorities allocated vast land for market projects, part of which was used to construct the current Tuobodom market during the era of former President John Agyekum Kuffuor.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Osei Kwame Collins a.k.a. ‘Top Man’ the Public Relations Officer of the Association, called on the District Assembly to reconsider demolishing the already existing market and build the proposed 24-hour economy market on the available nearby lands.
He commended the President John Dramani Mahama-led NDC government for choosing Tuobodom, the district capital, to host the 24-hour economy market project, but pleaded that the existing one be left to operate while the new development is carried out on the available land.

For his part, John Kwadwo Sarfo, alias Kofi Wayo, Chairman of the Tuobodom Youth Development Association, said they are against the demolition of the existing Tuobodom market because they fear that the people could be denied a viable market if there should be a change of government in 2028.
He cited the ongoing construction of an Agenda 111 hospital, started at Tuobodom by the previous NPP administration, a project which saw properties and livelihoods lost to pave the way for its commencement, but have been abandoned since the NDC took over power in 2025.

Finally, some market women who have stores at the market lamented how the District Assembly had not properly relocated them, but instead gave them a short notice to vacate by Saturday, May 23, 2026, for the demolition exercise.
One woman tearfully recounted how she took a bank loan to pay for a store rent at the Tuobodom market earlier this year, only to be recently notified to vacate for the demolition without any compensation or a new place to sell, a situation very suicidal to her life at the moment.

Meanwhile, the Techiman North District Assembly is yet to comment on the matter, but we can confirm that the DCE, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, has signed documents with a Contractor last week to report to the site and commence work soon on the Tuobodom 24-hour economy market project.
We will continue to follow this development and update our cherished listeners in future bulletins.
