The Kpando Central Market, just like most urban markets in Ghana, has been impacted adversely with human and vehicular overflows, spreading all the way to the Kudzra roundabout and the adjoining taxi station.

While there have been incessant calls for the market to be decongested, a pertinent question remained unanswered. Where will the ejected traders and other businesses move to when the area is fully cleared up?

In all these, there has been a deep rethink into the future for a prudent solution to address the current impediments and at the same time, safeguard livelihoods and allow businesses to thrive and flourish.

Today, a vision has emerged, laying a sustainable business blueprint for the next generation as well as for the municipality.

The site will on Thursday, 14th May, 2026, be handed over to a contractor for the construction of an expanded market attached with supporting facilities. It will emerge, not only as an ordinary market, but one with the capacity to run 24-hour businesses, in line with the government’s flagship 24-hour economy projection.
