A delegation from Metro Mass Transit Limited, led by Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey, visited CRRC Corporation Limited in Zhuzhou, China 🇨🇳, to explore possible collaboration on the project.

Officials say discussions focused on the feasibility of deploying the ART system in Ghana to improve urban mobility, shorten travel times, and provide safer and more efficient public transport services.

The Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has said the government is intensifying efforts to modernise Ghana’s transport system through international partnerships and innovation-driven infrastructure development

The engagement, she explained, focused on the study and potential development of an autonomous rapid Transit (ART) system designed to improve urban mobility and address congestion challenges in major cities.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey further noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of President
John Dramani Mahama and the government’s broader agenda to reposition Ghana’s transport sector through innovation, strategic partnerships, and sustainable infrastructure development.

Note 📝: Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) is an innovative, electric, “trackless train” system that combines the high capacity of a tram with the flexibility of a bus. Developed by CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, it uses sensors to follow virtual, painted lines on roads instead of physical rail infrastructure.
