ADIDOME, CENTRAL TONGU – Tension is mounting in Adidome after an alleged act of sabotage stalled a crucial community road project.

Residents are demanding answers after unknown persons allegedly poured salt into the engine of a grader and other heavy-duty equipment belonging to Mr. DZISENU Raphael, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who had mobilized his machines to reshape a long-abandoned access road in the area.

For decades, the road has been a nightmare for residents. Successive governments have promised to fix it, but the promises have remained unfulfilled. The road has become so deplorable and virtually unusable that encroachers have started taking over portions of it.

Moved by the plight of the community, Mr. Raphael, who contested in the previous NDC parliamentary primaries and is rumored to be eyeing another run, deployed his own equipment to reshape the road as an interim measure to bring relief to residents.

The work was progressing steadily until the shocking discovery. According to reports, salt was found in the engine of the grader, an act that can cause severe and costly damage to heavy equipment. The discovery has forced a complete halt to the project.

News of the alleged sabotage spread like wildfire in Adidome, sparking outrage and suspicion. Due to Mr. Raphael’s political profile, many residents believe the act may be politically motivated, possibly linked to internal party rivalry, while others say it may be a deliberate attempt by some individuals to frustrate development in the area.

“This is not just an attack on one person, it is an attack on the entire Adidome community that has waited for too long for this road,” a resident lamented.

The incident has deepened existing political tensions in the constituency, with community members calling for swift action.

Residents are appealing to the Ghana Police Service to launch a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to book, and urging NDC leadership to intervene to prevent the matter from escalating into a wider political dispute.

Despite the setback, many in the community are calling for the road works to continue, stressing that Adidome cannot afford to lose this rare opportunity for relief after decades of neglect.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, and the identity of the person or persons behind the alleged sabotage remains unknown.
