DAILY NEWSFLASH – Residents of Akwamufie in the Asuogyaman District can now access clean water for domestic use following the commissioning of a new Small Town Water System.
For years, the community has struggled with access to potable water. Residents were forced to spend considerable amounts buying water from tanker suppliers and transporting gallons by tricycle, a situation that placed a heavy financial burden on households.
Following a petition by traditional leaders to the Asuogyaman District Chief Executive, Hon. Godwin Bobobee, the assembly has delivered a sustainable solution.
The newly commissioned water system has a 3,000-litre capacity and operates by gravity. Because it does not rely on electricity, water supply will remain uninterrupted regardless of power outages.
Addressing residents at the commissioning, Hon. Bobobee said the assembly plans to expand the system in phases to enable every household to connect. He urged the community to ensure proper maintenance and regular cleaning to sustain the quality and flow of water.
Nana Berkai Ababio V, speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders present, commended the DCE, the contractor, and the assembly for the project. He assured that the community will take proper care of the facility to ensure its longevity.
Some residents who spoke at the event expressed excitement over the project, noting that it will significantly reduce their cost of living and ease long-standing water challenges. They also appealed to the DCE for a speedy extension of the system to all households.
The project was commissioned in honour of the Queen Mother of Akwamufie, Nana Aframkumaa.
