Navrongo, Upper East Region – President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing abandoned public projects across the country, citing the ongoing four-storey central laboratory complex at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, UTAS, Navrongo as a key example.
The President made the remarks on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during an inspection of the project as part of his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Upper East Region.
According to President Mahama, taxpayers’ investments in stalled projects must be put to productive use to benefit citizens.
The laboratory project, which commenced in 2016 before construction stalled, is expected to be completed and handed over in 2027. When operational, the facility will provide modern infrastructure for teaching, research, innovation, and practical training for students and faculty.
Roads and Medical School
President Mahama also directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to include UTAS’s request for about five kilometres of internal roads in its project inventory, describing the request as achievable.
He further reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening STEM education and expressed support for UTAS’s plans to establish a medical school to help expand Ghana’s capacity to train doctors.
