VOLTA REGION, Ghana – The Right To Information Commission [RTI] has fined several Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region GH¢20,000 each for failing to submit their 2025 Right To Information Annual Report.
The affected MMDAs include:
Ketu South, Kpando, Hohoe, North Tongu, South Tongu, Adaklu, Afadjato South, and Akatsi North.
According to the RTI Commission, the annual report is mandatory under the *Right to Information Act, 2019 [Act 989] to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions.
The Commission says the fines are to ensure compliance and encourage MMDAs to submit information on requests received, responses given, and challenges faced in implementing the RTI law.
Public institutions that fail to comply risk further sanctions.
The move has sparked conversations across the region about accountability and open governance at the local level.
