President John Dramani Mahama today inaugurated the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Market in Juapong, North Tongu District, signifying the initiation of a transformative project aimed at enhancing local commerce, generating sustainable employment opportunities, and fostering economic growth in the Volta Region.
This sod-cutting ceremony was part of the President’s two-day #ResettingGhana Tour of the Volta Region.
In his address to residents and stakeholders, President Mahama characterized the proposed facility as a modern economic center intended to empower farmers, traders, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. He emphasized that the project will not only function as a marketplace but will also deliver essential infrastructure for storage, processing, packaging, distribution, digital commerce, and access to financial services.
The President reiterated the Government’s dedication to expediting development throughout the Volta Region via strategic investments in roads, healthcare, education, agriculture, transport, markets, and agro-industrial initiatives.
He underscored Juapong’s strategic location and economic potential, indicating that the town is poised to become a significant commercial and industrial hub within the region.
As a key component of the flagship 24-Hour Economy programme, the Juapong Model Market will rank among the largest facilities under this initiative. The project has been classified as a Category Four Market, the highest designation within the programme, underscoring its importance to the region’s economic transformation.
This sod cutting cuts across the 18 Districts in the Volta Region to commence the construction.
