The Honorable Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has officially launched a new initiative under the revised GETFund Act, which is specifically designed to provide dedicated funding for learners with special educational needs. This initiative reaffirms the Government’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and equitable access to quality education.

In his address, he emphasized that the amendment to the GETFund Act was initially intended to secure sustainable financing for Free Senior High School education, thereby facilitating uninterrupted academic activities and addressing challenges associated with delays in the disbursement of feeding funds. However, he indicated that the Government has now expanded the scope of the Act to include dedicated support for learners with special educational needs.

As part of this new initiative, the Minister announced that the GETFund will fully cover the feeding costs for all learners enrolled in public special and integrated schools. He clarified that this arrangement will reduce the dependency of school administrators on the timing of warrant releases for the provision of meals to students.
