The chiefs and residents of Ave Dakpa in Akatsi North organized a demonstration against the District Assembly for not locating the 24-hour Economy Market project in the district capital.
Participants carried placards with messages such as, “DCE, you overlooked the president’s directive; reverse the site to the district capital,” “DCE, you misled us,” “DCE, your decision is biased,” and “Presiding member, you are a traitor,” among others.
The demonstration was notably peaceful yet substantial, attracting a large turnout of Ave Dakpa residents, both local and those from afar, including chiefs, opinion leaders, clan heads, asafo groups, youth organizations, and other citizens.
The demonstrators asserted that the policy document regarding the 24-hour Economy Market explicitly specified district capitals as the designated sites for the project. They expressed their dissatisfaction regarding the apparent disregard for this policy directive. They articulated their frustration over the perceived marginalization of the district capital in the site selection process, contrary to what they believe was the directive from the secretariat. They accused the District Assembly of intentionally selecting Ave Xevi over the district capital, Ave Dakpa.
The District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, received the petition from the demonstrators and assured them that their concerns would be communicated to the relevant authorities for resolution.
