A significant security breach has been reported at Mamobi General Hospital in Accra, where suspected thieves infiltrated the maternity ward during the early hours of Monday and stole mobile phones belonging to patients while they were asleep.
The theft reportedly transpired between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. Despite the presence of security personnel at the hospital’s main entrance, the suspects successfully accessed the ward and departed without detection.
One of the victims, Comfort Ahiadzebge, stated that she awoke around 12:30 a.m. only to discover that her Tecno Pop 50, which had been positioned beside her, was missing.
“I searched for my phone but could not locate it. Shortly thereafter, the other patients in the ward also realized their phones had been stolen. There were three of us in the ward,” she recounted.
The incident garnered public attention after journalist Paul Mensah Nsor from African News, whose wife was among those affected, shared details of the theft.
This burglary has raised significant concerns regarding security at the hospital, with many questioning how the suspects managed to circumvent security measures and gain access to the maternity ward without being observed.
