The Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused the government of failing to maintain control over the nation’s governance, asserting that internal conflicts among government appointees are diverting attention from critical national issues that necessitate immediate intervention.
This criticism was articulated by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, during parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, June 16. He expressed concern regarding what he referred to as increasing divisions within the government, occurring at a time when many Ghanaians are facing economic difficulties and social challenges.
The Minority Leader contends that the government’s inability to maintain unity among its officials is undermining effective governance and hindering the administration’s focus on key issues that impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized that while citizens expect government officials to collaborate in addressing national problems, reports of disagreements and internal disputes within the administration indicate a lack of coordination and focus.
He stated, “It is evident in this country today that the government has lost control of governance. This is apparent. Things are spiraling out of control, and conflicts are prevalent everywhere. You are not collaborating, and you are not addressing issues. Unemployment is escalating, and yet you are engaged in disputes.”
Afenyo-Markin further highlighted that the increasing unemployment situation requires urgent and coordinated action from all sectors of government.
