The Parliamentary Select Committee on Security and Intelligence held an engagement session with representatives of the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security. The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on matters relating to the protection of children in armed conflict, the implementation of the Vancouver Principles, the prevention of violent extremism, community resilience, and the protection of children from recruitment and use in armed violence.
The discussions also examined the concept of moral injury among military personnel, the function of early warning systems, the role of youth engagement, and the integration of child protection principles into Ghana’s national security framework.
The meeting brought together Members of the Committee on Security and Intelligence and officials from the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security, a Canadian organisation that works internationally to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict. The engagement afforded Members the opportunity to seek clarification on the Institute’s work, assess Ghana’s preparedness in responding to emerging security threats, and consider possible policy and legislative measures to strengthen preventive security systems.
