ARTICLE:
Youth farmers in the Volta Region have commended the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Eric Opoku, for efforts to make agriculture productive and attractive, but have appealed for guaranteed markets for cassava growers.
The Volta Youth in Agriculture group made the call through its Public Relations Officer, Madam Joy Fiamawle, in Ho.
Madam Fiamawle said the Minister’s emphasis on increasing food production, supporting farmers and promoting value chains is a step toward a sustainable agricultural economy.
She described agriculture as a powerful tool for job creation, youth empowerment and food security, and said young people in Volta have huge potential in crop production, livestock, aquaculture and agro-processing.
The group appealed for deliberate programmes that give youth access to land, affordable credit, irrigation, improved seeds, mechanisation, extension services, storage, processing and guaranteed markets.
