An NDC National Women’s Organiser hopeful has congratulated Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson on her election as National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement, the aspirant described Hon. Koomson as a former colleague in Parliament and wished her wisdom, strength and success in her new role.
She stated that as a former Member of Parliament, she understands the huge responsibility that comes with leadership and the high expectations placed on women in key political positions.
While congratulating her, she however condemned suggestions for women organisers to be provided with pepper spray as a response to political violence.
According to her, though the intention may be to promote personal safety, especially given Hon. Koomson’s own experiences, women leaders must preach peace, unity, stability and responsible leadership, and not anything that could be seen as promoting violence or confrontation.
She argued that women organisers should rather be empowered with knowledge, skills, economic opportunities, access to resources, leadership training and platforms that enhance their role in national development.
“Political differences should not prevent us from having a shared commitment to the welfare and advancement of Ghanaian women,” she noted, adding that despite belonging to different political traditions, they can work towards a Ghana where women are confident, protected, respected and empowered to lead.
She concluded by reiterating her commitment to an agenda built on peace, unity, inclusion, opportunity, empowerment and strong women’s leadership as she pursues her own ambition to become NDC National Women’s Organiser.
Slogan: Women Empowered. Women United. Women Leading.
