KWAHU AFRAM PLAINS NORTH – The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has commissioned a 22-seater fibre boat for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at Zikpo Nyuinyui in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.
The boat is expected to improve access to NHIS services for residents in hard-to-reach island communities, including Dwarf Island, Digya Island and Dodi Island, making registration, renewal and other health insurance services more accessible.
The initiative forms part of efforts to ensure that location does not prevent residents from accessing essential healthcare services, particularly in deprived and island communities along the Volta Lake.
Hon. Awatey said the intervention will bridge the gap between island communities and essential health services, stressing government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
Residents and traditional leaders in the area have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major relief.
