The Cocoa Pest and Disease Control (CODAPEC) Unit of the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED), in collaboration with the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has commenced Phase II of its sensitization and farmer engagement programme on the distribution of free fertilizer in the Eastern and Central Regions.
The first engagements, held in Suhum and Oda, were aimed at educating cocoa farmers on the modalities, eligibility requirements, and implementation guidelines for the distribution of free fertilizer to improve soil fertility and enhance cocoa productivity.
The National Coordinator of CODAPEC, Cocoa Health & Extension Division – COCOBOD, Mr. Abu Seidu, explained that only productive cocoa farms qualify for the programme. Each productive acre is entitled to three (3) bags of fertilizer, with the allocation capped at 10 acres per farmer within a jurisdiction, even if a farmer owns a larger farm.
Mr. Seidu urged farmers to actively participate in the sensitization exercises and work closely with their respective District Cocoa Officers to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme and the timely distribution of the inputs.
The Phase II engagements form part of COCOBOD’s broader efforts to improve cocoa tree health, restore soil fertility, increase farm productivity, and promote sustainable cocoa production across the country.
