Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery program has suffered an embarrassing moment in Texas.
Lindsey Austen stepped outside to film her first-ever drone delivery after hearing the loud buzzing of an Amazon drone approaching her home.
Instead of a perfect drop, video captured by Austen shows the drone hovering directly over her swimming pool before opening its compartment — dropping the package straight into the water.
No injuries were reported, but the incident highlights the final challenge for autonomous delivery: getting the last few meters right.
The mishap comes as Amazon plans to expand Prime Air to nearly 500 cities and towns across the US by the end of 2026, promising 30-minute delivery for groceries, electronics, cosmetics and more.
Amazon says its drones use cameras, sensors and a Detect-and-Avoid system to operate autonomously and have FAA Part 135 certification. The company has not yet commented on what caused the pool delivery.
For Austen, her futuristic order arrived — just not where she expected.
