President John Dramani Mahama has announced that construction of the Bolgatanga Airport is scheduled to commence by the end of 2026 and will be completed within 24 months.

The proposed airport is designed to accommodate up to 100,000 passengers annually and is expected to significantly improve air connectivity in the Upper East Region.

Boost for the Region
According to the President, the facility will boost economic activity, facilitate trade, and enhance development across the region and beyond.

“We want to open up the country to air travel”
Speaking on the project, President Mahama stressed the need to make air travel more accessible across Ghana.

> _”We want to open up the country to air travel because there are some people who want to go very quickly to Accra, transact their business, and come back quickly. You cannot sit in a bus for 11 hours going to Accra and 11 hours coming back.”_

The Bolgatanga Airport project forms part of government’s broader agenda to decentralize air transport infrastructure and reduce travel time for Ghanaians in the northern part of the country.
