The District Chief Executive of North Tongu District Assembly joined the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, the Member of Parliament and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, traditional authorities and other distinguished guests at the Grand Durbar of the 70th Afenorto Festival in Mepe on Saturday.
The celebration showcased the rich culture, heritage and traditions of the people of Mepe. The DCE, who delivered remarks at the event, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage, strengthening unity, and working together towards the continued development of communities in the district.
The Regional Minister used the occasion to account for Government’s development interventions in North Tongu. He highlighted ongoing projects and plans, including the Volta Economic Corridor, which seeks to unlock the potential of the Volta Lake and create opportunities in agriculture, trade, tourism and water transport.
The DCE commended Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his continued advocacy and commitment to the development of North Tongu. He also applauded the chiefs, elders, and people of Mepe for sustaining the Afenorto Festival for 70 years.
Reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment, the DCE pledged to continue partnering with traditional authorities, stakeholders, and government to drive development, create jobs for the youth, and improve livelihoods across North Tongu.
