ACCRA, GHANA — The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a nationwide demonstration on Thursday, August 6, 2026, under the theme _“Democracy Under Attack”_.

In a statement and promotional materials released by the party, the protest is expected to begin at 6:00 a.m. from the Supreme Court and proceed to Jubilee House, the seat of government.

The NPP says the demonstration is intended to draw attention to what it describes as _“growing threats to Ghana’s democratic governance.”_

Key Demands and Messaging
Organisers are rallying supporters using the hashtags #DemocracyUnderAttack, #SaveGhanaNow, and #SayNoToStateCapture.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of the NPP Communications Team and spokesperson for former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, said the protest is in response to what the party claims are increasing attempts by the government to _“silence dissent and weaken democratic institutions.”_

“There is always the temptation by people in power to suppress the voices and rights of the people,” Aboagye stated.
“But there is an inherent self-purge with democracy. Try as you may, you can never suppress.”

What to Expect
The march is expected to draw NPP supporters from across the country, with the Accra leg likely to affect traffic around the Supreme Court and the Osu/Jubilee House enclave during morning hours.

Security arrangements and any official government response are yet to be announced.

The NPP says further details on regional mobilization will be communicated in the coming days.
