Donation to Boost Emergency Response and Save Lives in Volta Region
HO, VOLTA REGION – The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has received two fully equipped ambulances donated by *Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah*, Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency.
The handing-over ceremony took place in Ho and was attended by the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu; DCE for Ho West, Hon. Prosper Francis Dusey; Volta Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Atsu; CEO of NAS, Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu; NAS Volta Regional Administrator, PAEMT Bright Kingsley Manu; EMTs, traditional leaders, and community members.
The donation comes at a critical time as NAS continues to face rising demand for emergency services nationwide. The two new ambulances are expected to significantly improve response times and access to life-saving care for residents of Ho West and surrounding communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, *Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service*, expressed gratitude to the MP for his timely support.
“This donation means faster emergency response, improved access to critical care, and a better chance of survival when it matters most,” Dr. Owusu said.
He assured the donor and the people of Ho West that the ambulances would be deployed immediately with trained Emergency Medical Technicians and maintained to the highest operational standards. NAS will also provide regular reports on their utilization to the constituency.
As part of the *Mahama Cares Initiative – the Ghana Medical Trust Fund launched by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama* – the ambulances will function as mobile emergency units, bridging the gap between communities and specialist healthcare services.
Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah*said the donation reflects his commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Ho West. “No constituent should lose their life because an ambulance was not available. This is our contribution to building a stronger and more responsive health system,” he stated.
Dr. Owusu urged residents of Ho West to protect the ambulances as valuable community assets and to use the emergency numbers 112 or 193 responsibly.
The National Ambulance Service reaffirmed its commitment to working with Parliament, traditional authorities, and communities to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery across Ghana.
